Custom Natural Tanning
-
First Step
If you are interested in sending us a hide to be tanned, please start by sending an email with your name, what kind of hide(s) you have, and when you are available for a quick phone call
callanshore@gmail.com
During the phone call, we will discuss what kind of natural tanning method you would prefer, the timeline, and the cost.
The two types of natural tanning we offer are smoke-tanning (brain-tanning) and veg-tanning (bark-tanning).
Cost will depend on the type of tanning you choose, the type of hide, and where you are located, among other factors.
To preserve your hide(s) till we receive them, please either freeze or thoroughly salt and dry them (do not dry without salt!). Reach out for further guidance.

Deer Hides
Many hunters send us their deer hides to be tanned. Whether it’s your first deer or a special one you’ve been hunting for years, we’ll work with you to make sure it turns out beautiful and functional.
We recommend turning your deer hide into leather or buckskin (suede) because deer hair is hollow and brittle and thus sheds A LOT when left on the hide.
However, if you are attached to your deer being tanned with the hair on, we can discuss this in our consult call.
